Uncles: Wall Sculpture: Leather Baby Shoes: 2014-2016
An emptied nest and an exhaustive household inventory leads to the discovery of my own old baby shoes, and I begin to collect the ubiquitous sturdy white footwear worn by children in the 1950's. My shoes are lost in the collection, but any of these shoes might belong to anyone of my generation. As in other concurrent series the objects are deconstructed along seam lines and flattened into pattern pieces. Here they are made into small tapestries, sometimes embossed with leather garment remnants and using elements of leather or saddle stitchery, but with reference to traditions of decorative needle work.
