Whereabouts Unknown: Boiled Leather: 2016
Engrossed in a kitchen experiment that involves dropping kid leather gloves into boiling water, I discover that the gloves shrivel instantly to half their original size; they bulge, discolor and distort unpredictably; and dry like rawhide. Reading about the art of boiled leather, or cuir bouillé, I learn that it is possible in a survivalist situation to boil and eat one's shoes. In this series, ladies' kid leather gloves and leather baby shoes are taken apart and subjected to boiling water, then sewn back together into rigid lace-like forms that call their shadows into play.
